JEFFREY COURT RENOVATION CHALLENGE- WEEK 6 – FINAL REVEAL
Friends!!! Pop the bubbly! We made it to week 6. I don’t know how we did it but here we are. Can I just tell you number one, how excited I am to have this room be done because I ADORE it! Number two, I feel like the tin man. Literally could someone please come over and grease my joints Wizard of Oz style. I’ll let you take a shower in my new bathroom if you do?

So remember last week when I told you everything was running smoothly. Yeah well that was a big fat joke. Everything was great until the this one little tiny area where you would turn the shower on was leaking oh so slightly. Like barely leaking but still it was super slow drip, almost where if blinked you would miss it. So we had to special order parts for it which took longer than expected which delayed tiling the shower, which delayed tiling the floor etc. etc. … you see where I’m going with this. It’s always the finish that gets me. But low and behold, it’s done. Jeremy and I worked straight for 2 days to get this finished and it’s oh so rewarding.
Low and behold here we go. Here’s a refresh to what it looked like before.

Oh EMMMMMM GEEEE!!!!!! Be still my heart! If you notice we decided not to do a sliding glass door. Why? Because the one I wanted which had to have flat black hardware was $985! I just couldn’t swallow that price and with the money I saved I got to decorate my whole patio:) So instead of the door I decided to a fun shower curtain with a track hung from the ceiling and long links to hold the shower curtain. (I’ll have links to everything at the very end.)
Here’s the vanity that I saved from my own shop. Remember it was Blue before and it had different legs on it. I sanded it down to bone, added hair pin legs and bought a new counter top for it. I ‘ll have a separate post on how I did all of this. I’m too excited to show you the rest of the bathroom.
Can we please take note of the green ceiling! It was a risk and one that I’m glad I took. I am in love with not only the color but the unexpected look of it and instead of just stopping where the ceiling meets the wall we brought about 8″ down into the white wall. Jeremy panicked when he first saw the color in the can but then agreed that it looked wicked awesome!
How fantastic are these champagne gold fixtures and gold saber lights. The mirror is from Walmart! Can you believe it. I was going to do a gold round mirror but then I found this and it was just meant to be!
I am just in love with the Jeffrey Court River Mosaic Tile and hexagonal floor. I also chose to use a brushed gold schluter strip to butt up against my shower tile to finish off the transition. I just love how subtle it is yet what an impact it makes.

Jeffrey Court Renovation Challenge – Week 5
It’s week 5 my friends! So close that I can taste it aka take a shower in it! We had a little bit of a slow week. We got a lot done but it doesn’t look like it. It’s like getting a heaping mound of spaghetti for dinner and you eat until you’re full but it looks like you haven’t even made a dent in the plate. Yep you all know what I’m talking about.
Since last week, we put in the new insulation behind the shower and got the tub out of our dining room and up the steps into the bathroom. That things was heavy!!!!!!
Jeremy surprised me by putting recessed lights and a new exhaust fan in. (I didn’t even ask?) And guess what?! The fan has a built in blue tooth radio guys. I know right! I’m not even kidding. This is like the next best thing to sliced bread. You turn the light switch on and the fan and the music come on automatically. Mind. Blown! I must live under a rock or something because I think this a fantastic little device.
Moving on. The tub fit perfectly in its new spot. I had to special order flat black parts for the tub because I just HAD to have flat black. Not oil rubbed bronze which looks almost black at the right angle but flat freakin’ black. Amazon Prime to the rescue for these puppies.
I did a lot of research on waterproofing the tube surround and by a lot of research I mean I think I watched every you tube tutorial and read every forum out there on this topic. I am now a self-proclaimed shower water proofer, if thats such a thing.
I ended up going with the schluter Kerdi board. (The orange board seen in the photos) This stuff is amazing. It’s an extruded polystrene foam panel (which means its super light unlike typical backer board) and it’s reinforced on both sides. It has lines on it already so when you cut it with a blade you get super straight cuts. We put this up in a half hour. It was so simple!! I had to buy it from a dealer in our local area which I found on the Schluter dealer website.
They also have these fancy schluter pre fab shower niches which are all ready to install in between your 2 x 4’s .
We have to move out shower piping over so that we can recess the shower niche directly under the shower head. Here’s before we moved the pipe.

And now the niche fits in perfectly!
Next on this list is sealing all our seams in the shower and then onto the tiling! Things are going to go super fast from here on out just in time to reveal the finished bathroom next week. I CANNOT wait!!!!!!

To my surprise folks, we are running on track! I don’t know how it happened but give me a deadline and I’m on it. I’ve found out that I work really well under pressure and tedious timelines much to my thinking that I don’t. Who would have thought.
Week 3 was a little slow on any improvement since gutting the bathroom. We have yet to run into a major hold up in this renovation which is pretty darn remarkable so I took the week to pick tile, a vanity, a mirror and the other things that make a bathroom homey.
Here’s a reminder of what the gut job looks like.
First of all I got to choose some AMAZING Tile provided by Jeffrey Court. Believe me when I say this was the hardest part of the whole design process. They have too many really fantastic options to choose from. I could have gone a million different ways with this bathroom reno.
I ended up choosing the Riverfall Basalt Mosaic Tile for the Shower and the back splash behind the vanity.
For the floor I chose Statuary Path Porcelain Hexagon Tile. These guys are 10″ x 20″ and they are gorgeous.
After picking the tile for the bathroom I knew I wanted to go for more of a Scandinavian/mid century modern/minimalist look.
I’m going to remove the legs on this, replace them with hair pin legs, sand it down and stain it and then I ordered a new sink for the top. Just wait for it! It looks amazing in my head.
I am still playing with faucets and shower fixtures but I’m thinking something along these lines. I think the gold will pop against the shower tile.
And last but not least here was my first inspiration board.
