Hello Friends! It’s that time again. Swap It Like It’s Hot 5. If you weren’t around for the past few rounds of this fun swap it game for bloggers, I’ll catch you up to speed. Here’s the low down. A group of DIY bloggers pick out items that desperately need rescued from thrift stores and then send them to other bloggers. When that blogger receives their items they have use their DIY creative juices to give them new life.
So here’s what I got from Kimm over at Roadkill Rescue. A small basket, a metal frame, 5 really small glass jars, a cardboard like hanging thingy-mabob and wooden thing. (I don’t know what this is called) You like the names of some of my items.
I started with the hanging sign thing. I painted it with black chalk board paint. 1 coat did it for this little project. After that dried I used a chalk paint pen in white and hand wrote the phrase “theirs no place like home”, from one of my favorite movies “the Wizard of Oz.’ It’s cute right!
Next I spray painted the small basket gold. I then put a fake plant I had sitting around inside the basket and used the brown crinkly paper filler (which was also sent in my package from Kimm) to use as filler around my flowers.
I actually loved the metal frame as is. I debated on painting or doing something to it but I just loved it as is. I ended putting my favorite photo of my husband and I in it and now I love it even more!
The vintage wooden thing which I believe fits into a vintage dresser got a paint makeover. I painted one thin coat of off white on here. I then sanded the edges to give it that naturally worn look and wiped on a coat of BB Frosch clear wax to protect the paint job. I decided this was perfect to sit on my nightstand and put my jewelry in before I go to bed at night. I am ususally too lazy/tired to walk 10 feet to my jewelry box when I go to bed so this is perfect for right beside my bed.
I also used the 5 little clear glass jars for the same purpose.
I grouped all of these items together and they mesh pretty darn well.
I now have a newly styled nightstand thanks to the swap it crew!!!
Want to see what I sent Karen at Year of Serendipity. I can’t wait to see what she did with my finds.
Looking for some more great transformations. Here are a list of other bloggers participating in #SwapItLikeIt’sHot 5!

Fun! I love what you did with your items, especially that cute jewelry storage bin!
You totally brought that random group of items together! Love the jewelry storage! XO
Love how you brought all these items together! Those little glass jars are super cute, too. Perfect jewelry storage!
The jewelry holder is my favorite! And I, too, am usually too tired to walk 10 steps to my jewelry box at night! 😉
Cute! I mean who would have ever been able to pull that pile of thrift store c-r-a-p and bring it all together in one vignette! I actually love the old wooden dresser insert! They did things right back then, but your version is great too! 😉 xx
