Hello Friends!! Hope you are all enjoying your summer so far. I know I am! This week I am showing you the end product of an old kitchen cart that I turned into this cool storage cabinet. So here it is all finished.
I picked this kitchen cart up at a yard sale and I could just kick myself because I cannot find the before picture. However here is a similar piece that I picked up too.
This piece had wooden doors on the front, no legs on the bottom and had some weird cutting board that you could pull out that looked like something was growing on it. I removed everything so that just the shell was left. Now what?
I had this window sitting around staring at me and after much deliberation of what I was going to do with it, it turns out it fit almost perfectly on this cabinet.
It was just too tall for the cabinet :/ NO biggie! Just add legs.
I bought these unfinished legs at Home Depot. They were 6″ long which was just about the perfect height to add onto this cabinet. I Painted them white and put them on the bottom of the cabinet. Now my window fits!!!
I attached the window on the side of the cabinet with 2 black hinges that I bought at Home Depot. They look perfect.
The cabinet already came with these baskets inside. I just cleaned them up and painted them black and put them back in. They are great for storage and look good too.
Next I painted. I chose a Benjamin Moore sample color in Brewster Gray. Why this color? Because I found it at Habitat Re-Store on sale for an amazing price.
I then added BB Frosch Chalk Powder right to the can with a little water to create my own chalk paint.
After 2 coats of that I went back in using a dry brush technique in white over the whole piece to create a distressed look.
I then decided to coat the whole thing with 3 coats of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. I chose to use Polycrylic instead of wax for this project because that’s just what I had on hand at the moment. It gave it a nice sturdy finish too just in case it was going to be used as a wine cart or in the kitchen again.
So there you have it. An interesting new cabinet that begs to be the center of attention.
Have a beautiful week everyone!!!
Hi there, would it be easy to add a butcher block top to this, just make the top a little longer on one side, and a little wider on the one wide area, so you can put bar stools on one side? Then put a towel bar on the short side, then put it in your kitchen? Or even use it as a bar, in the living room? Oh, for this, it would probably need to be a little taller too! By the way, thanks for all the ideas!!!
Yes, I could have definitely added a butcher block top to this. The possibilities are endless. The hardest part of a project is choosing just one thing to do with it!!! Have a good one!!
