I hope you all had a fantastic Turkey Day with lots of family around to go with all that yummy food. Personally, Thanksgiving is my favorite “food holiday”. I love all the delicious sides which go along with your typical Thanksgiving food but what I especially love is cranberry sauce and I will take in any shape, way or form, including the canned kind with indents of the can permanently fixed on it. Just sayin’.
Now that Thanksgiving is behind us and black Friday is over I can now focus on Christmas (my favorite decorating holiday!!!!!! ) I can officially be giddy about Christmas decorations at this point! This year I wanted to try to make more of my decorations. I usually have a lot of fun shopping for them locally but I really wanted to get crafty this year and I thought I would start off with some Christmas trees made out of unexpected items. I mean really, who doesn’t love some good homemade Christmas tree décor?
I decided to make trees out of old decorative scrap fabric trim, a Styrofoam cone and a star. There is a local place in town that sells fabric, buttons, paper and everything crafty you possibly imagine. (kind of like habit re-store but for crafty stuff). So I bought everything there super cheap and had a ball making it all! (you can also get all of this stuff at your local craft commercial craft store too and don’t forget to use your coupons:)
I also made another one using the same sort of Styrofoam cone and trim that looks like rope. I hot glued it the same way as I did on the one shown above. To top it off I stuck some random holiday flowers in the top.
I made one more really festive tree using a really unexpected item. Fishing spinners!!! I used medium sized ones and really small ones.
Take your spinners and glue them around the perimeter starting at the bottom and working your way up.
I am lovin’ me some homeade Christmas trees this year, obviously, and I think they look fantastic not to mention they were really fun and easy to make. (except for the occasional hot glue gun burn on a finger or two, I felt like a kid making these.)
Hopefully this gives you some inspiration for this holiday season. You can literally make a tree out of anything and make it look good. So give it a whirl and let me know how it goes and remember you don’t have to buy all of your holiday items. MAKE THEM!!!!! 🙂
Have a good one!!
