If you have seen any of my previous posts, you know that I’m partial to brass items. It’s sort of a new thing for me but right now I am lovin’ it. I found this chandelier at a “mom and pop” thrift store in my town. You know, the dusty moth ball shop that’s dimly lit and you might get chopped up in the back room like a scary movie BUT they have great crap!!! Well I found this poor soul laying on the floor like a pup in a pound wanting a home. So, I had to buy it!!!
Check out the light on the bottom!! Isn’t that awesome. It has it’s own switch on the side of the chandy that you can turn on and off manually. Freakin’ cool!
I decided that I wanted the whole thing one solid color to modernize it. I thought about staining the wooden part darker but then decided against it. So I started off by taping of the parts that I didn’t want sprayed.
Next, I spray primed the whole thing and let it dry. Then after much deliberation, I chose Valspar Silver Fox (don’t you love that name). It’s sort of a grayish blue color that looks brilliant and matches almost any décor.
After 3 coats of Silver Fox (which was a flat paint) I rubbed on two coats of wipe on poly to give it a nice shine. This was the end result!
This just gives you an idea of how easy it is to transform an outdated piece. Throw some light bulbs in there and hand that puppy up. You don’t have do anything crazy, just a little spray paint and poly and you’re good to go!! TRY IT!!! You too will be surprised:)
