Alright, so this is my first stab at painting and styling someone else’s house other my own or my moms. Shout out to Esther for trusting me with my paintbrush and thrifty ideas. Love her and her awesome house that is going to get Amy-fied! Oh yeah, I just said that!
This room, like the rest of her house, has beautiful bones. I mean just look at those floors, gorg! But then look at those curtains…eeehh, eeehhh, eeehh (those were the sounds effects from the movie Pyscho). I am multi-talented. We actually both laughed at them and I of course repurposed the curtains by using them as drop cloths on the floor. Worked like a charm!
OK, Here is her living room and here is the plan.
Here is another view and a basic plan. The green couch stays in the plan for the room. I will make it work, you just watch.
The first thing I did was paint. Picking out a color was pretty easy for this room. It’s a huge room with tons of natural light, so we could do a lot with it, however we needed a color that looked good with the color of the green couch. We were going for a tannish-grey or warm tan color. These greys that we picked were all the wrong colors.
Then we found this tannish color which was the perfect warm color the room needed.
Valspar’s Oregon Coast from Lowe’s.
Her walls had been wallpapered and painted over a few times, most recently in that salmon color. We debated whether or not to remove the wallpaper, however it was in great condition and it had a really nice texture. Now normally I would highly recommend not painting over wallpaper and doing it the correct way however, I painted over it, and the results were amazing. It kinda looks like linen. Don’t you think??
The texture on the walls soaked up the paint like a sponge so I made sure to put 2 coats of paint on the walls.
Esther’s suggestions for the room were #1 warm and #2 the sofa and coffee table had to stay. Everything else was up in the air style wise.
Having that information, I picked out a few pillows and 2 sets of curtains for 2 different looks to start with. The pillow is from TJ Maxx and the drapes were on clearance at Target.
The second look is a little brighter and more contemporary. The pillows are from Lowes. Yes I said Lowes, they had really cute pillow covers for around $5.00. The drapes are again from Target (but not on clearance, wahh wahh).
I love both looks, I just wanted to give her some options. She was away while I painted, so she hasn’t seen the 2 looks yet. How exciting! I wonder which she will pick. Stay tuned for the complete look and final reveal of the living room. All we need is furniture…Amy style 🙂
