So I finally jumped on the brass train. I wouldn’t have been caught dead a year ago with anything brass in my home. But now, I’m diggin’ it! I bought these candle holders while waiting in line to pay at Salvation Army a few weeks ago for 4.99 each. They were dull and filthy but I loved their shape. So of course they came home with me, much to my husbands dismay (he hasn’t quite jumped on the brass train yet) I was originally planning on spray painting them until I found some Brasso under my sink one day while cleaning. I have no idea how Brasso found a home under my sink, because I surely didn’t buy it, but whatever I gave it a whirl.
Above ,you can see the left candle holder in each photo is after I used Brasso and the right one is before I used it. The directions said to rub some brasso on with a clean soft cloth, let it sit for a few minutes and then buff it off with another clean cloth. Easy enough and what a difference right!!! I could see my reflection in those shiny puppies.
So here is the final product! I just need some classy candles to finish it off.
Here are some other brass projects dying for some DIY love. I just haven’t gotten to them quite yet. This beauty below was found at Habit Re-Store for $8.00. I am thinking it will look fab above my sink. We’ll find out soon enough.
Below was a drive by freebee. Oh yes that’s right, I said FREE. Tires screeched, everyone in the car may have gotten whiplash when I stopped to turn around for this, but I came home with it for a luscious $0.00. I have a wonderful plan to take out the lights and the wiring and put a candle under the middle. I can just see the ambiance from all the reflecting light. Can we say amazing centerpiece!!! Coming soon!
Stay tuned for other brass appearances throughout the house.
